Will TSM repeat History?

Is Team SoloMid setting themselves up to repeat history? Now we are not talking in the sense of once again winning the NA LCS Summer Split. We are looking at the bigger picture that every team strives for and that goal is being competitive at Worlds. Last year we seen Team Solomid adopt the Korean system when it came to practice and scrims. The players were rarely streaming and were all focused on being a successful team on the world stage. This produced amazing domestic results for Team Solomid as they finished 17-1 in the Summer Split.

The biggest downfall TSM had throughout the split is that they were never really challenged by the other NA teams. Some games could be close but overall none of the other teams were quite on the level TSM was. Once the team made it to the World Championship in 2016 their weaknesses were exploited like they hadn’t been against teams from their region. TSM from the start looked impressive when Svenskeren was allowed to play Lee Sin, a champion he is very comfortable on. Once teams began to adapt and ban the champion against TSM and take away other comfort champs they became uncoordinated. They did not look like the same team that  dominated NA LCS.

RNG picked Aurelian Sol against TSM in the deciding match to get out of groups and they were toppled. When it comes down to it, TSM have historically struggled to adapting to uncomfortable circumstances. This split the team has been outspoken about their desire to learn different compositions in order to prepare themselves for worlds. There has been the notable Bjergsen Galio games as proof of that. Yet one of the biggest issues with the team is the fact that they are taking Lee Sin any time they can pick it. Svenskeren has been seen as the weakest link of  the team this year when he is not on Lee Sin.

This past week in their victory over Echo Fox Svenskeren stated he wished teams would ban Lee Sin against him so he can get practice on other champions. That in itself is a huge problem. If Team Solomid’s objective is to be able to play different compositions and play styles to prepare for Worlds, then they have to learn to be dominate without Lee Sin. Yes TSM was able to defeat Echo Fox with Svenskeren on Gragas, but how are they going to fare against teams like SKT, G2 and the Flashwolves at Worlds. Not to mention North America does not have a Pool 1 seed this year so this world championship is already an uphill battle for the region. The TSM organization needs to find a way for their players to be successful on champions and play styles they are not comfortable with if they are going to have any shot being competitive at Worlds.

A Preview to Playoffs: Week 9 Friday's Matches

The final week of the North America League of Legends Championship Series starts its cast at approximately 3:00p.m. PST.  First match of the day is Team Envy versus Immortals. Tonight's final match will be Team Dignitas against Counter Logic Gaming.  The top six teams of the league, or the playoff teams, are in close contention across the standings, and teams will be fighting hard to jockey themselves into a good position for the playoffs. All four teams playing today are in the playoffs, but their position in the standings and their playoff seeds are not cemented. Tonight is a preview to the playoffs as these teams may be facing each other again in the Summer Split Playoffs when it matters most. Below is the current standings, but who will rise and who will fall?

What is Team Liquid's Plan?

It seems that the name of Team Liquid’s most recent acquisition sums up the organization perfectly, InsanityXXX. There once was a time that Team Liquid was a competitive League of Legends team but that just is not the case anymore. On the surface it seems as though the Team Liquid Organization is willing to acquire top talent, but the problem is they do not know how to use it. During the 2016 offseason, it looked as though on paper Liquid would be in contention for top 3 in the NA LCS; however, for some reason the team just never seemed to be successful. It appears as though Liquid these days makes announcements more for fan reaction, rather than long term competitive success. We constantly hear new headlines about player acquisitions, but nothing really about team culture or changes to infrastructure to bring out the best in their players. In the Team Liquid YouTube video series there was a constant teaser to a new person being part of the roster. To the surprise of m...

Team Liquid vs C9 A Battle For The Top

This Saturday we will see the first quarterfinal matchup of the NALCS. After what was a long day of tie breakers in the final day of the regular season, we have the 4th seed Team Liquid facing off against the 5th seed C9. Memes aside it’s hard to believe where both teams ended the regular season. C9 looked like one of the more dominant teams throughout the split then faltered towards the end. Team Liquid a roster put together with intentions to compete at the international level has struggled to be consistent. These two teams will face off to earn a spot in the semi-finals and come one step closer to representing North America at MSI. Now it’s time for the bold prediction. Putting regular season results aside and the fact that the league reverted to best of 1s, it’s difficult to create a good evaluation of these teams. Going based purely off player history and dealing with high pressure situations it seems as though the Team Liquid roster holds the edge over Cloud 9. Altho...
